On June 3, 2017, the hamlet of Norval lit up with celebrations of all kinds – musical, historical, cultural and gastronomic – in honour of Canada’s one-hundred fiftieth anniversary. Willow Park Ecology Centre was part of the celebration, as it welcomed visitors to “Wild Canada” on the other side of Silver Creek. There were displays, nature walks, crafts, and a teepee erected in honour of local indigenous heritage. Guests could sample pesto made from invasive garlic mustard, build a bird-house, learn how fishing lures are made, and experience a sensory exploration of natural surfaces and objects. The day ended with a fire circle, First Nations drumming, a drum blessing, and a beautiful ceremony honoruing our connection with the Earth led by Sheila Black.
